The first time Aris saw her, she was screaming like a banshee, hair wild around her face, stumbing to a stop at the foot of the chappa'ai. She wore gleaming white leather laced shoes, heavy blue denim trews, and an odd short-sleeved shirt with writing on it in a script he couldn't read. She stopped shrieking, pulled her arm free of the Trust man who'd been dragging her, and pulled the hem of the shirt down.

She turned to look back at the stargate. "What the hell is that thing? It's definitely an E-ticket ride. And where the hell am I? I'm guessing this isn't the Luxor in Vegas, despite the decor."

Later on, he'd decide that that was the moment he started to fall a little in love with her.

It was turning her brain into oatmeal. She knew that. Switching back and forth between the Ancient alarm system in the mine, and then the tech on the wreckage of the Inspired's ship trying to interface with her when she went topside. She couldn't sleep at night, and when she did, it was nothing but nightmares and memories that weren't her own.

The ships in space. A song of form and function, crystalline snowflakes drifting in the endless night. The ships landed. The people spreading out across the valleys.

The Goa'uld. Fire and terror and the smell of burnt flesh. Towers falling like icicles, shattered.

Kerry woke up, flung herself out of the trailer and into the dim night lights of the mineshaft, and the soft chugging of the naquada generator. The boys weren't around...at least she hadn't woken Aris or the Boss with her screams this time.

She glared at the door, and the line of Ancient writing, and hated the glow-in-the-dark bastards with all her heart.

Nothing useful, nothing that made any sense to her, but maybe the boys back at Area 51 would get something out of the tape. Kerry marked the panel she'd just touched, and reached for the next one up. Her fingers stretched to make contact. She could just barely touch it. The stepladder was a couple of paces away, back down the tunnel. She should move it and set it up again...but just maybe she could do one more without it.

She hated being up a ladder and having an out-of-body experience anyway. One of these days she was going to fall and break her neck.

Strong arms wrapped around her waist and lifted her. She gave Aris a startled glance. He smirked at her. "Superman," she muttered. The six foot three alien was a lot stronger than she was, thanks to the heavier gravity.

She touched the panel...the sigil lit up and she was in orbit around a planet that looked like Mars, a shattered space station before her, decks laid open to vacuum. She started to describe what she was seeing for Aris and the Video camera, and took her hand off the stone.

Aris was looking into her eyes...and if she inclined her head a bit....

She blushed, as he lowered her to her feet, and he cleared his throat.
